STR'S SPIRITUAL TRYSTS - INDIAN EXPRESS

Looks like actor Silambarasan is in his spirituality zone more often nowadays. The actor, who tasted success as a child star and managed to give the same impetus to his career even as he graduated to adult roles, is now pursuing his spiritual quests.Simbu is said to have managed to take some time off from his busy schedule while shooting for his latest project Inga Enna Solludhu, to go on a pilgrimage to Haridwar.
When asked about his sudden interest, Simbu said, “Yes, I am into spirituality and meditation; they help me mature. I am rediscovering myself and this self-realisation would go a long way in shaping my inner self. I have been to Rishikesh and Haridwar to seek blessings and I am sure the breath of fresh air blended with spirituality will help me attain the goal I deserve. As far as I am concerned, spirituality is not restricted to visiting temples and holy places. It is the search of knowledge and that is true in my case as well.”Meanwhile, the actor has clarified that his much delayed projects Vaalu and Vettai Mannan will begin soon, following news on his micro-blogging page that said he had dropped both the projects.

I dont want to take the blame for the delay of my films

Simbu announced on his micro-blogging page that he has dropped both his upcoming films Vaalu and Vettai Mannan, which have been in the making for a long time.Chennai Times spoke to the actor on the issue, and he said,There is a general opinion that Im always responsible for any delay in my projects. But,this time,I didnt want to take the blame because it was the producer, who was responsible for the delay. Both the films are being produced by the same person (S S Chakravarthy) and he was busy with other commitments.I didnt get any update from his production house about resuming the shoots of these projects for a very long time. So,I had to announce that Im putting these films on hold, though I was very much keen on completing them. Following Simbus tweet,we hear that the producer had contacted him and the two have sorted out the issue.I will be shooting for Vaalu shortly. We have just nine days of shoot left.Shooting for Vettai Mannan, which is 50 per cent complete, will commence soon after that, Simbu added.

Heart copy

STR opens up to udhav naig on his upcoming films Vaalu and Vettai Mannan, his Love Anthem and being comfortable with his image.
In this day and age when celebrities hire PR firms to carefully carve out their image in the media, Silambarasan’s ‘headline-worthy’ answers, are still refreshing. I say this after spending 15 minutes interviewing him inside the cool comfort of the caravan in which Silambarasan, who prefers the tag ‘STR’ these days, calmly answers questions. What is that that makes people think he is a person who lacks respect for others? “I think the reason I am called arrogant is because I speak from my heart.”
The negative labels have been part of his journey in Kollywood, be it when he turned scriptwriter for Manmadhan at a young age or when he recently released a single titled Love Anthem for‘unity, love and humanity’. “When I wrote the script for Manmadhan I never thought age was an issue. I did it because I thought I could pull it off,” he says. The Love Anthem, however, garnered criticism on social networks and in certain sections of the press, he says. “Frankly, I was really surprised. They said I was doing it to compete with Dhanush who had released ‘Kolaveri’ at that time, while I was just trying to do an international track to spread the message of love. I couldn’t understand why people were comparing two different actors and personalities, in the first place!”
Does the constant bad press affect him? “When it happens over time it does begin to have its effects. I am no exception,” he says bluntly. There were encouraging signs of this negativity declining after his collaboration with filmmaker Gautam Vasudev Menon for Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya. Silambarasan became a desirable lover boy overnight. “I can feel the way things have changed for the better,” smiles Simbu. “Films can change a lot of things.” The success of the film allowed him to rebrand himself as a modern and stylish hero. He followed it up with two un-Simbu-ish films such asVaanam (in which he shared screen space with other notable stars) and Poda Podi, which was slightly experimental, considering its primary target audience was the urban middle class.
His next couple of films, Vaalu and Vettai Mannan, which are being filmed at the moment, are what he calls “commercial films”. I ask him if he plays a college student, he says, “In Vaalu, I don’t play a college student but I fall in love with one, and Vettai Mannan is a gangster story that deals with themes of friendship and loyalty.” Does that mean Simbu is reverting to mass masala films? “I am a person who listens to my heart.”The actor also cites ‘listening to his heart’ as the reason he spontaneously decided to wish the students of Loyola College who protested against war crimes in Sri Lanka. “I didn’t call my friends or the press. I just went there without really thinking about the repercussions. I thought it was the right thing to do.” After making headlines by roping in international singer Akon, certain sections of the press said he would be collaborating with Rihanna. “I don’t know where these things come from! When I announced that I will rope in Akon for Love Anthem, everyone said it was impossible. Now, after I have made it happen, people are saying that I am going to work with Rihanna. I am looking to work with an international singer.

STR turns spiritual - Times Of India

It looks like Simbu is undergoing a different kind of makeover. The actor, we hear, is seen practicing meditation, avoiding non-vegetarian food and keeping a big distance from parties and functions. It looks like the meditation has done a lot of good for the actor as he has become immensely calm and composed. He has also been able to cultivate positive energy around him and his friends. On the career front too, things are looking up for him as the actor has two films up for release, Vaalu and Vettai Mannnan. The actor's Love Anthem is also making news as Akon was in Chennai to shoot for the video.

After Akon, is it Rihanna next?

Now that we all know how Akon turned desi with a vengeance in Chennai, the latest on the Love Anthem front is that singing sensation Rihanna might be on board too. Simbu is hoping to rope in Rihanna to provide female vocals for his special number, and we believe he's this close to sealing the deal. Akon, with whom the Kollywood actor struck a good equation when the R&aB singer was in the city, is, apparently, actively involved in getting Rihanna to say yes to this. A source says, "The team has touched base with Rihanna, and she is expected to revert soon. It is still not clear whether she'd come to Chennai to shoot for her portions, if she decides to take it up. Akon has fallen in love with the music scene in India and is keen to do more such projects."

Simbu to do a cameo for VTV Ganesh?

Simbu's friendship with comedian Santhanam, whom he introduced into the film industry in 'Manmadhan' and with VTV Ganesh is known very well to everyone. VTV Ganesh is making Inge Enna Solluthu (IES) starring himself and Meera Jasmine with Santhanam playing an important role. The latest buzz is that Simbu is all set to do an important cameo for VTV Ganesh in the film.

Simbu had also recently done a cameo role in Santhanam's 'Kanna Laddu Thinga Aasaiya'. The title 'Inge Enna Solluthu' is taken from Ganesh's popular dialogue in Gautham Menon's VTV and is being directed by Selva. In IES, Ganesh plays his age and the story is about a 45 year old man, said to be a chronic bachelor falling for a girl and how romance brews between them.

Simbu's 'Love Anthem' to feature International singer Akon in a Dhoti?

Chennai: Tamil actor Simbu made international R&B singer Akon wear a veshti (dhoti) while shooting for the music video of the global version of his hit love single 'Love Anthem'.
"It was fun shooting with Akon. The music video has come out really well and I'm sure audiences will love it when it goes viral. I convinced him to wear the traditional Tamil festival attire and made him dance to few steps in the song," Simbu told IANS.
"He is a wonderful human being and is very cooperative. I'm grateful to him for taking time off his busy schedule and coming all the way to Chennai to shoot the song with me," he added.

Akon, who arrived here Saturday to record the music video,

had previously crooned 'Chamak Challo' in Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Ra One'.

But this time he also features in the video.

Made with the intention of spreading love, Simbu's 'Love Anthem' features the word love sung in several languages. It was originally released in 2011 for world peace.

Akon 'Smacks that' and finishes off in style

International hiphop artist Akon who was in the town recently to record a Love anthem with STR, completes his recording with style. STR was over the moon as the duo have gone a little more south Indian this time with donning "Veshti" costumes for a Kuthu number. STR has tweeted recently that the "Smack that" star tried some Kuthu steps and just rocked it. Sporting a traditional avatar, Akon seemed to have loved the costume and the superstar also watched a few songs to get the steps right.

The music video, choreographed by Brinda, was directed by Vignesh Shiva, Nelson. The entire set was awed by the star's humble nature. Being such a Larger than Life than character and yet such humility was something unexpected. He even obliged to hundreds of photographs for his fans and didn't have any qualms at all. The Love anthem will have 96 languages penned into it and this will be a different version from the previous one. The visuals of this song are kept under the hood, but it will be full of peace signs with candles, and lot of Indianism as well.

Rihanna to join Simbu next?

Popular singer-entertainer Akon touched down in Chennai amidst a lot of fanfare and the R&B star was driven around in style in a Jaguar with several Mercedes Benz driving around him as escorts. His participation in the 'Love Anthem' is believed to last a good 90 seconds, which was recorded in A.R. Rahman’s studio in the city. The video will feature him and STR in three different costumes including the traditional dhoti and both will be seen doing the 'kuthu' during the closing part of the song.

But the big news emerging from the ‘Love Anthem’ camp is that one of the biggest names in the music industry at the moment, Rihanna, too is likely to chip in with her bit for the song which is composed by Simbu himself. It is still yet to be ascertained if and when this development will take place, depending on which the release date of the final version of the 4 odd minute track will be determined.

The music video directed by Nelson was shot with the aid of a green screen and STR was very particular that the emphasis by the cameraman Shakthi should be on the lighting and cinematography. Simbu will also reportedly fly to L.A to package the song before presenting it to the world.

Veshti-clad Akon does the kuthu with STR

He may not have been mobbed at the airport, but gearing up for STR’s Love Anthem – it seemed everybody wanted a piece of Akon. On set at Binny Mills, the ‘Smack That’ singer impressed actor Silambarasan and the crew gearing up for the shoot with his quick desi transformation in a crisp white veshti-sattai. And if this wasn’t surprise enough, STR tweeted later: ‘He has tried our kuthu step and he just rocked it :)
And beyond the buzz of the five-time grammy nominee’s traditional avatar, it turns out the Love Anthem team cannot stop raving about the singer’s humility. “I’ve never met a superstar as ‘superfriendly’ as Akon,” says photographer Karthik Srinivasan who shot the stills for the anthem. Srinivasan elaborates, “I don’t know whether the whole crew like the light guys and backstage hands knew just how big Akon is, or whether they’ve heard his music before....” He goes on, “But at the end of the shoot, a hundred people surrounded him to take photos with him – it was like a ‘Rajini-reception’!”

While the specifics of the shoot sequences are still under wraps, STR does tells us that the video will include elements such as “peace symbols, candles and Indian dancers. One can chance a guess that these visuals will be set in place in the post production stages, given the chroma key set (green screen that allows a different background to be substituted) – in the photos that we’ve glimpsed of the shoot so far. This certainly ties in well with the fact that the lyrics with inputs from Akon – are multi-lingual. “The song has words in about 96 languages,” reveals STR. He adds,“This version will be different from the last version of the song. The new version will be more about oneness and the need to spread love.” Apparently the actor was scheduled to shoot in the US while on tour there, but couldn’t work out the dates at that time.
Now that the project has come together over a year later, the actor couldn’t be happier. He shared the feeling with fans on twitter saying,God has always delayed things for me but has never ever denied it . Trust and belief is the only thing which has saved me all my life :)Clearly, smileys won’t be in short supply in STR’s statements this week

PEACE IS MY GOAL - STR

Simbu might have invited unwarranted criticism when he first embarked on his ambitious project, The Love Anthem, but today he's having the last laugh as Akon flew in to namma Chennai to record the song and shake a leg with him Today, I am a different person. I feel no competition or jealousy anymore. Truly, feel blessed at all that the world has given me even during my lows. I want to give back to the world now

Simbu is no push-over and brushing aside some of the negative press about his Love Anthem in the past, he says, “Lots was said about the anthem, the timing of it then and my US trip. But to all the backbiters and small minds who belittle me, the proof is in the music,” he laughs. STR who wrote the Love Anthem in 96 different national and international languages encountered some unpleasant comparisons and mocking, but his fans stood firmly behind him and the video’s teaser went viral online. He opens up, “It wasn’t easy dealing with such baseless criticism, but I have my fans and family to thank for the continued support. My only aim was to bring out a song for peace. There is so much going on in the world today and we, the youth have so much power to change the way we live, progress and protect our own...”

Having completed 28 long years in the industry (he started off as a child artiste when he was just nine months old), Simbu says, “Honest work always gets recognition. I knew one thing when I started acting as an adult — that I wouldn’t want to do anything that would embarrass my parents.

Films don’t appeal to me because of my role in it or plush locales that they are shot at, they have to have a larger message for the society.
Meaning doesn’t emerge from off beat films alone, even commercial flicks can have a message. Than people calling me as great actor, I want people to say he is a great human being and that would be the biggest achievement in my life.” Talking fondly of Akon, he says, “I have read about him in the past.
In fact meeting him far exceeded my expectations.
As an actor I can gauge star quality and he is one person who has real star quality and warmth. When I wrote this song, I only had him in mind to collaborate with. As soon as I pitched it to him he was thrilled. Even when the song is out I'm sure his fan base will increase in Tamil Nadu.
“ Was he nervous? “I was very nervous. Obviously, he is such a talented musician and I didn't know how he would react. The minute he landed, so much was running through my head -`will he like my lyrics', `will he want to change them’ and if he will be easy to work with,” he says and continues, “The minute we met he was so warm and suggested we get to work right away. But I told him let’s shoot from Monday and not Sunday. He was cool. He didn’t have any tantrums or airs about himself.” So, did he change the lyrics? “None whatsoever. He said he loved the lyrics as they were. Akon found depth and passion in the lyrics. I can’t tell you how touched I am by his generosity in helping me live my dream. My dream was always to give back something to the world. This track is that medium. I want to promote peace.“ He adds, “Akon always introduces himself by announcing his name or the artistes featured in his music and he introduced me too by saying `Akon and STR' without me even asking for it.
“ Over biryani and other south Indian dishes, Akon tuned into STR's spiritual side. Friends close to STR say that the actor is deeply spiritual and off late has been in an introspective mood. Prod Simbu a little and he opens up, “I am not the same Simbu. Life and my close family have taught me to pursue my dreams no matter what the outcome. I feel no competition or jealousy anymore. I am truly happy if people are doing well. I am so very proud of Dhanush for all that he has achieved. The comparisons people draw mean nothing to the both of us. My main concentration is to better myself as a human being.“ And what prompted this sudden reflection? “My graph if you look at it carefully is a self-made one. Yes I have been fortunate to have supportive parents who have some exposure to the film industry, but I have worked incredibly hard. As a youngster it took a while for people to take me seriously. My talent spoke for itself but to get that talent noticed wasn’t easy. So, in this long journey I have realised that the strength one seeks is within us, the God that we all look to for protection is around us. We need to put out good to receive good.” If the song bombs, will you still be happy? “Yes, of course. Commercial success perhaps drives a newbie, but to me it’s about doing the right thing.
The world has given me so much and let me trump every trough in my life. This is my dedication to the world. The song is all about loving each other and having no space for hate or animosity.”

Akon Goes Desi, Does a Kuthu Jig!

Akon's recent whirlwind visit to Chennai was about all things Indian. The R&B superstar — in the country to record and perform for Kollywood actor Simbu's Love Anthem — looked every bit the local, dressed in a traditional south Indian vesthi, as he tried a kuthu dance.

"For one of the lines from the song — Pyar Prema Kadhal... — I wanted Akon to do a kuthu step in a traditional costume that'd surely appeal to audiences. When I told him that, he said, 'You wear the costume; If I like it, I'll do it.' When I wore it and stood in front of him, he exclaimed, 'Wow, this is so cool'. His wife also liked it and so, we went ahead with it," says Simbu.

The music video, choreographed by Brinda, was directed by Vignesh Shiva and Nelson. Akon, we hear, loved the steps and spent time to learn them. A source, who was present on the set, says, "Akon watched some Tamil kuthu songs to get the steps right. Once he was on the dance floor, he kept improvising and surprised everyone."

That's not all; the Smack That singer also tucked into some Indian cuisine. Says Simbu, "Oh yes, I wanted him to have biryani, and ensured that it was specially made. He loved it. He was also very curious to know about movies and music made in India."

The Love Anthem, which features lyrics in languages from across the world, will be released in the US, and Akon will be a part of the launch function as well. "He immediately agreed to grace the occasion," says Simbu, adding, "For me, it's a dream come true. Despite being an international superstar, he was very cooperative and supported us thoroughly during the song recording and shoot."

STR is floored by Akon's qualities

We were the first to report that Akon would be arriving in Chennai to shoot for Simbu’s Love Anthem. Over the past few days, the shoots have been completed and Simbu is apparently floored by Akon’s humanity and also his ability to rock our native kuthu dance steps.

The net has been flooded with images of Akon in a white silk shirt and dhoti along with STR and this Love Anthem is surely one to look forward to.

STR has thanked all his fans, friends and well-wishers for their constant love and support towards his ‘Love Anthem’ initiative
